One of the most effective ways to recover when you are feeling under the weather is to take a day off with a sick leave. This way, you can rest assured knowing that you will not miss out on a full day’s worth of pay; this peace of mind means a great deal for all wage earners. Currently, many employers in the United States are not required to grant their employees time off even when they are ill, and almost half of all the workers in the private sector lack access to this vital protection.
Why are paid sick leaves important?
Paid sick leaves are a must if employers want to create a corporate culture that is centered on loyalty, trust and work-life balance. And most Americans will agree to this if you asked them. In fact, a poll conducted by the University of Chicago shows that 77% of working individuals believe that paid sick leave is a very important employee benefit as well as calling it a basic human right. Oftentimes, allowing employees to stay home when they fall sick does not just improve the quality of life for them and their families, but it also gives businesses an opportunity to show that they do genuinely care for their employees.
Not a meaningless free pass to escape work
Sick leaves are essential and a meaningful way to protect countless working adults and teens across the United States. Until national policies fully reflect those beliefs, TRAXPayroll can help ensure you are able to provide whatever paid sick time you feel comfortable offering. Remember that when you give your employees the right to recuperate when they have fallen ill, your relationship as employer and employee will strengthen and get that much stronger.
What you need to know about California’s new paid sick leave law
The ABs 304 and 1522 apply to all employees that work in the state. This is also applicable to non-residents and even if their company is situated out of state. In order to comply with the new law, the business must:
- Display this poster in a prominent manner in the office
- Inform employees how many hours of sick leave are used and how many are left during each pay period
- Allow employees to carry over unused sick leaves from the previous year
- Allow employees to earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 working hours clocked
- Enable their employees to take no less than 24 hours of sick leave per 12-month period
The new state’s sick leave law will also allow employers to control the use, carry-over and accrual of sick time.
